in the same vein as the previous four this week ............... costing me mone but not via gambling !! i went out of diggler towers just after the morning line to run some errands the car started and i started to drive but the car wanted to go violently to the left , on inspection i had a flat front tyre , hoping that a kid had played a prank and let it down i drove the 1/2 mile to the garage to put some air in , my worst fears were realised though as i took the cap off only to see a nail protruding out of the tyre . i got myself to my local tyresrus and 1 tyre quickly multiplied to a full set of 4 !!!! , the other front was ok just but not much life left in it but the rear two were cracked and needed replacing straight away , as im a regular customer they did me a deal and it was decided to replace the set ................ nearly £400 down on the day and not a bet had been struck in anger !!! thankfully by the end of the day this episode had long been forgotten .
i have always held a preference for the national hunt season , and in times gone by , i had always earmarked the october saturday "timeform" chepstow meeting shown on the beeb as the start proper of the winter season , but i shall bring my start forward in future by a couple of weeks to this weekends market rasen meeting , and i was especially looking forward to see the debut over hurdles of alan kings progressive flat horse franchoek , bred to stay forever this son of trempolino was expected to fare well over hurdles my only concern was that he may get tapped for toe over just short of 2m 2f , as i feel he may need further over hurdles , a creditable 3rd but i feel my concerns were justified congratulation to mark holder on this race !!!!
the second horse i was looking forward to was blu teen , i first noticed this massive scopey horse at chepstow last season when successful , this horse dwarfs his oppenents jumps for fun and travels well , his trainer pre race voiced concerns on the fitness front and he was spot on , all through the race he travelled like the winner although he never really managed to lose the attention of prestbury knight and although niggled to stay in touch superior fitness in my opinion eventually took its toll and prestbury knight won going away , congratulations to isiris on this race !!!!!!

i was out friday night so i missed getting on in the qe ii , but with the non runners i decided to try and trade myself into a position where i could back the horse @ 5/2 on the exchanges each way and therefore obtaining ew on 3 places as it was now a 7 runner affair.
listening to comments by the beeb experts pre race they mentioned the selection and raised the possibility of trouble in running , i mocked this comment , ffs there are only 7 runners !!!!
i not for the first time this week was cursing the ineptitude of a "top class champion" jockey ........

ouch £1600 and counting ...............
cost of the week as i speak , close of play friday evening , fully realise that this can be wiped out at a stroke at the stakes i bet to ............. but obviously not the start i wanted !!!! but losses are part n parcel of the game im in , if you cant take a loss gambling is not for you , its the long run that counts and im fully confident that the last few days losses will be erased over the next week or so , but from my point of view i was looking forward to my return after the holiday , was excited and confident (that has not changed) and had a extra bit of enthusiasm and so far this week has been like todays weather a damp squib but you cant choose your profitable times , and day to day profits are to my way of thinking are irrelevant , all im concerned with is the long term p/l and as long as its generally on a upward curve (and it is , but not at the levels i want) then im content .

WHAT WAS I SAYING ABOUT THE HILLS BROTHERS .............
yesterday i was counting my lucky stars when michael hills took it easy inside the last and just held on more by luck than judgement to retain a much needed 3rd place , well today it was turn of twin brother richard to show why their runners imho should be backed sparingly and with a wealth warning ............ backing this horse could seriously damage your wealth ! im not saying for one moment the horse would have won , the winner showed a nice turn of foot at a vital stage in the race but backers of deira dubai (2.20 ponte) were never in with a chance the way the race panned out .

not a champagne return ..................
with the optimum selection thomas mallory denied in a photo for 3rd in the 3.50 folkestone today but not too much damage done , on the whole not a bad couple of weeks to have off from what im told by various emails received whilst on my holiday , and back raring to go .
some good news on my return a new independent betting shop has opened locally offering all kinds of offers including paying out on the 4th place in handicaps when the field are reduced to 15 and even 14 runner fields !!!!!! HAPPY DAYS but i wonder how long i,ll be tolerated and what odds im allowed £300 ew on ??? little i imagine .

off for two weeks on sunday morning , need a break and really looking forward to it , going to stay with family near carcassonne , france not far from the pyrenees then travelling along the costa brava coast staying in little fishing village resorts such as cadaques and blanes for 7/10 days .

went to reading this evening to see our bitch gregorys girl run in her first open , we were expecting a decent run and her final placing 5th beaten just under 5lengths may look disappointing ................ far from it , i was more excited about tonights run than any of her 3 previous victories , she slipped leaving the traps so was slow away , at the first bend she got crowded and entering the back straight a bit of trouble and she ran into another dog , leaving her detached by some way , she then showed decent pace and stayed on well , pleased and excited we went and gave her a big cuddle and sloppy kiss ! she easily stays in excess of 400m her current trip @ romford and tonight was all totally new to her and it showed . on the betting front i had to support her at odds of 12/1 i had £2000/160 and £500/80 w/o the fav the one dog who won the race , so a loss of £240 add on £60 from this afternoon making £300 on the day , hurry up sunday & my hols !!!!

a nightmare arbing scenario .............
for me in the 3.05 york , backed always fruitful £200 ew @ 12/1 had layed it back 11.75/2.96 win & place and was quite happy until potential disaster struck , there was a n/r reducing the field to 7 and my bookmaker bets were now 1/4 odds 1-2 but my betfair lays were still the original 3 places ! the reduction with the n/r gave me a potential loss of £344 if the horse were to finish 3rd . this is not the first time this has happened and personally i can see no solution , you know the risks as an arber with moving markets and the n/r situation , i decided to do nothing and hope , luckily on this ocassion i came out unscathed as the horse was first beaten and trailed in last .

my only bet on the night was get a grip a improving pup from the same kennel as mine , ran a brilliant race last time out and i expected her to run well , he opened on the track @ 9/4 , support came in for the four dog into 5/4 but get a grip only drifted to 5/2 but was available at 7/2 on the fair , i had £200 on . he trapped out well , only led by the 5 who had bags of early and going down the back straight was 3lengths behind , but then he started to make ground and coming off the last bend he was about to take it up on the inside when the 5 shut the door on him and he was forced to check , coming up to the line he was closing but the finish came a couple of strides to soon and he was beaten a head .
so i start the day £375 in arrears ................... work to do !

monday afternoon i received three emails .........
i would have published them if they were comments but they were emails sent to the address on my blog , two of the emails were regarding the mark holder service and the bet on saturday the other questioned my honesty and integrity , so lets deal with the mark holder situation , i will be resubscribing in october im away for the majority of september and i decided to restart my membership on the 1st october , sods law saturday 1st sept up pops a 8/1 winner ! well done to mh & his team and i hope all his subscribers filled their boots .

all my afternoon action was centred on the 5.00 wolver isiris put up veenwouden , i was unable to acquire any of the 15/8 and the selection was quickly trading nearer to 13/8 on the exchanges , i had £1000 @ 7/4 yes agressive by my standards but i reckoned on serious support at the off i had layed £1000 @ 2.51 giving me a profit of £240 if victorious , i then left an order to lay £100 @ 1.69 in running , a low of 2.00 was achieved so i lost £45 in comm .
tonight my girlfriends bitch gregorys girl(7.27 rom) is in action and a bold showing is expected , a winning £300 bet @ 3/1 last week but the post has her as a 2/1 fav tonight , if thats the case i wont be supporting her with my hard earnt tonight , have a safe run fifi !!!

all my afternoon action was centred on the 5.00 wolver isiris put up veenwouden , i was unable to acquire any of the 15/8 and the selection was quickly trading nearer to 13/8 on the exchanges , i had £1000 @ 7/4 yes agressive by my standards but i reckoned on serious support at the off i had layed £1000 @ 2.51 giving me a profit of £240 if victorious , i then left an order to lay £100 @ 1.69 in running , a low of 2.00 was achieved so i lost £45 in comm .
tonight my girlfriends bitch gregorys girl(7.27 rom) is in action and a bold showing is expected , a winning £300 bet @ 3/1 last week but the post has her as a 2/1 fav tonight , if thats the case i wont be supporting her with my hard earnt tonight , have a safe run fifi !!!
in the 7.58 romford i do fancy get a grip who ran brilliantly last week and i expect to support him tonight .

at 10.15 this morning i was just about to pop down to the gym with my post and a read on the bike when i got a phone call ................ anychance of helping us out , xyz has just dropped out the second team only has 10 players , most of the squad are on holiday and we are second bottom of the league playing third bottom winner stays up scenario , can you please help us out , i explained that 10men would probably be stronger than 10 plus me but my mate was having none of it , but i have to work saturdays is a busy day and the match is miles away for me as i live in middlesex now , not brentwood . look you can use your phone and place your bets from the pitch , i tried to explain i needed the internet but he was having none of it and i was coming ut of retirement to help out my old team mates in the titanic relegation battle in the tc rippon news league division2 rayne v south weald , i had to meet my mates enroute as i didnt know where rayne was . we won the toss and batted ......... a nice lovely day and i could get my bets on
i was down to bat at number 7 we went off like a ferrari 90/1 off 14 but this quickly was educed to 120/5 off 19 and i entered the fray after a 2 years absence , i played out 4 balls with no alarm , watched a maiden go by from the non strikers end , then i hit 4/2/4 off the first 3 balls of my next over , easy this i could be the next ian botham even at 41 !!! then disater stuck i went for a cover drive only to get a inside edge that hit my toe and bounced up to be caught by the keeper ................ hows ya luck!! i thought the ball had hit the ground first but the neutral umpire assured me at tea it had hit my toe , we ended up on 212 all out . we had the opposition 120/5 and we were favs the skipper from this time to the end kept telling me to warm up as i was going to bowl , he tossed me the ball at 209/5 with 6 overs to go !!! thanks mate i explained i was exhausted from my warming up exercises and was too knackered and that in my only game in 2 years i didnt want to bowl the ball that relegated the club everyone on our side collapsed in laughter even though we were about to be relegated , skip bowled the over still red and tears in his eyes from laughing , the ball a long hop was despatched with glee for 4and we had lost and were relegated ........................ i had loved the day and cammaraderie of my old team mates , slotting in as if i had just been missing for 2 weeks due to holiday and i aim to play next year for a local side on a sunday as i realised how much i miss playing .

i had my fingers crossed for no isiris main account bets as i had little chance of getting on via my phone and thats not taking into account the scenario that i would be fielding , but the lads at cricket asked me any bets today and i said i would let them know after the isiris message , i told them there could be 3 possible bets whilst we were batting , the first though might be too short crystany in the 2.40 ripon they said the price dont matter we just want a winner ........ the next 15 mins was hard work trying to explain the concept of value and betting to make money !! anyway crystany drifted and won i had £100 @ 4.2 when she skipped a few lengths clear a roar went up as the lads were on , even the batsmen in the middle , the next bet was kingsbrook in the 3.35 na i had £50 ew @ 16/1 the others had fivers and tenners ew ............. it only went and won , the opposition did not have a clue what was going on in this relegation battle we had just lost a wicket and there were all of us jumping up n down like madmen screaming "get in " !!! the last bet miss midnight came a respectable 4th i had £25 ew @ 10/1 , so well done and thanks to isiris and optimum !!!! you may well have some new members from the brentwood area in the next month or so , i was £1255.60 up on the day with a poss isiris main account bet to come, but i would be fielding , i did contemplate faking a injury at 5.47 to get myself reading for the call back but i thought it would be cancelled after the brilliant afternoon winner advised @ 20/1 and anyway i was happy with my lot as were my team mates !

when everything falls into place or very nearly does so , each day i start with two sheets of paper , one with my own ideas and the other is divided into sections designated to the subscription services with account bets and possible trading/betting strategies and as i make each call bets and comments are noted down , once all this info is down , i take five/ten mins to organise it in a timetable of races and i just take some time out to make sure i have a clear idea and strategy ahead of the days racing , somedays i may have too much information and thats where i try to cherry pick the best bets in my mind for the coming day and today was such a day , i had 4 horses of my own to back and optimum mentioned 5 races plus an account bet , now there is no way i will be having 10 bets so i have to be selective , my horses were 4.30 chester noisy silence , 5.25 sandown sugar ray , 6.10 sals mccartney and 6.40 sals bright mind . bright mind is automatically scratched on the price as is a 2/5 fav , noisy silence is the next one to go as i think 10f even round chester will stretch its stamina and i think the track wil be too tight lastly im no great lover of betting at the course so this one bites the dust , its down to sugar ray and mccartney and these two i both expected to win the only drawback would be the price as a minimum i wanted 7/4 both of them , but during the day both were trading around evens-11/10 . this strategy worked well for sugar ray the 11/10 fav who was disappointing to my eyes finishing 2nd under a very strong ryan moore ride so it was down to mccartney , i would under different ground conditions be willing to take a shorter price on this one as he has shown a liking for some cut but i thought he would cope with the quicker ground and had my fingers crossed that the ground concern would cause a drift in the ring , on his previous impressive victory he drifted on the exchanges so i was hopeful that my price would be attained , as it happened it was , touching 2/1 i believe , mccartney won got a good ride and maybe was a fortunate winner as the runner up perhaps did not , but they both look decent horses , but mccartney defintely prefers cut in the ground and only just got away with it today .

well i have already explained my personal bet on mccartney i had £250 @ 2.79 and my only other activity was in the hamilton 2.30 i had looked at this race in he morning on my bike down the gym ! and came to the conclusion that the fav artsu may be vulnerable on ground concerns , but i thought no more of it until i listened to the optimum message and andrew was of the same opinion so i had this one down as a lay and layed £200 @ 2.52 the analysis was spot on and artsu was out of the frame , andrew gave a positive for ramanti and this was backed for £60 @ 4.67 to give me a nice profit of just over £400 on the race , the 4 other races mentioned were dismissed as 2 of the mentions were at chester a course i like to avoid unless im positive the horse has a good draw and the speed to utilise it and the other 2 were at sals and as i was by the start of the meeting £400 up with a poss bet on mccartney to come i held back as i wanted to guarantee a profit on the day , this was achieved with the johnston horse winning a profit of £828.15 personally on the day .
